Back in March, I bought a 2x55 Bright Kit from AH Supply. I had one of my bulbs fail after three days. Another one failed this morning. This one actually broke where that short tube joins the two long tubes. These bulbs are in a retrofitted AGA singe tube strip.

Has anyone else had a problem with short-lived bulbs?

what wattage is your retro kit rated for ?

sometimes the inexpensive kits don't play nice with bulbs of lesser watts than what its rated for

Have you contacted ah? There's always the possibility of a few bad pieces making it through the manufacturing, no matter what the product. Most companies are very happy to replace any defective products.

Oh yeah, AH Supply has totally taken care of me.

It's just that I've never seen anyone talking about their bulbs burning out or breaking. I'm feeling very unlucky.

Well, I'm hoping that you were just got an unlucky batch. So far they're the best price I've seen for cf kits and I was hoping that some time down the road, I'd order from them.

I had a little bit of a problem a while ago. I have the 2x13 kit from AH supply, and soon after I got it, one bulb would flicker on and off for a certain period of time, and work normally at other times. I also had problems where one of the two bulbs would just go off for no reason, while the other stayed lit.
I haven't had this problem for about a year now. I think maybe it was the bulb, but I really can't remember if it went away before or after I changed bulbs. In any case, the first bulbs I had were the ones I ordered along with the retro kit.
For what it's worth, I emailed AH supply a few times about this and never got a reply.

Starry,
What was the shipping cost for that kit? That's the one I was looking at. Not too impressed by the non-reply though. Anyway, it's all well into the future.

After reading over the posts again, I just want to state that I have never had customer service better than I've received from AH Supply. I never even asked them to replace this last bulb for me; they just did it.

I'm more curious about the early failure of the bulbs. Both of mine have been fine at night right up until the timer turns them off, and then they go poof when the timer turns them back on in the morning.

Mine wasn't on a timer back then. I'm using a timer now, and no problems

happychem - I really can't remember the cost. Under $60CAN for sure. And don't let my one experience stop you, I've heard good things about them. Plus, there aren't many alternatives, esp in Canada.

Don't know what the situation is with AH receiving e-mails, but when I've had problems, or needed guidance in the past I've called the 800 number on the site and never had anything but good response from Kim, who is the only person I've spoken with there.
The guy has gone out of his way to work things out to my satisfaction on more than one occasion.
