I was just curious on fish selection in 55g tanks. If anyone would like to mention what is in their tank and why, go for it! :)

As for me.....Im new, I dont have anything to speak of.

I have recently switched from a cichlid tank (convicts) to a community. So you can imagine I went for quite a variety after only having 1 type of fish for so long.

I currently have:
3 blue gouramis
2 angelfish
4 zebra danios
8 sunburst coral platys
3 corys
1 CAE

That's all for now, maybe after I finish out the decor I will add a few more. :D

EDIT: By the way, if anyway has a comment about my fish types (good or bad) I'd like to hear. Thanks

In my other 55 gallon I have native fish.

You can keep a snail with them? I've always tried to keep snails with my goldfish to clean the tank, then one day the goldfish would figure out how to kill them and eat them all! It really was like buying them expensive fresh food. I had up to 4 goldfish in a 45 gallon tank at a time. I tried to buy a few snails at a time to control algae. Fortunately, the fish usually ate the snails after they did a pretty good job removing the algea ;)

One 55g holds a pair of Protomelas spilonotus and a pair of lemon jake peacocks, the other 55g holds a group of Labidochromis caeruleus, a group of Melanochromis parallelus, a group of Psuedotropheus demasoni and 4 Neolamprologus cylindricus.

The cylindricus and the Protos are going in one of my 125g's pretty soon. I'm trying to get the diets and temperments better matched to each other.

Becky, it depends on the personality your Goldfish holds. Some are more curious (aggressive?) than others. I've never had a goldfish who ate snails. Maybe mine are boring or not into checking things out. On a side note, my goldfish do not dig up plants like some report. I've never had those problems thank God. ;)

setting up a new 55 not sure what it will have at this point - lots of live plants for sure

7" common pleco
3" clown pleco
1 black tetra
1 false SAE
2 striated loaches

These fish are those that moved to a new location with me over 4 years ago, and I have not added any new tankmates for them.

This tank stays in very good condition mainly due to the low stocking level, and my TLC for my long time fish friends!

1 chocolate pleco, 1 weather loach, 3 whiptails, 1 butterfly pulcher, 6 cories, 6 otos, 5 cherry barbs, black mystery snail.

3 swordtails, one male betta, one blue tetra, 3 UDC, ??? kuhli loach colony, zigzag eel, one fmeale killifish (this tank is the result of sorting out some other tanks, not very organized).

Both are planted, one is low light, the other medium/high light, CO2.

Hello all... I'm a newbie to this site and the amount of great information is endless on here! Now that the "sucking up" is complete, here is what I have in my 55:

1 Pleco
1 Irradescent Shark
8 Tiger Barbs
2 Blue Gouramis
2 Gold Gouramis
3 Tetras
2 Cories
1 Betta Fish

I am extremely new to fish keeping so I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions if I can't already find my answers burried in this forum somewhere.

Standard caveat when asking me about my tanks:

Do as I say and not as I do...

3 pairs of convicts
1 Striped raphael
Will have a bristlenose pleco in a couple weeks
Several Plants.

Now, what I say is: don't put plants in a cichlid tank if you enjoy the ownership of your hair (you'll pull it out about the 50th time your cichlids team up to rearrange your plants). And don't put that many cons in a 55 :D I'm gonna get rid of one pair when I find a suitable home for them, because I'm having aggression issues....

In my 55g I have the following

15 tiger barbs
4 rosy barbs
2 gold gouramis
3 clown loaches
2 bushynose

This tank is heavily planted. The fish are still small. In a couple of months, most of these will go in a 75g, and this will become my platies new home.
