View Full Version : Why does my skimmer keep filling up so fast?

Lately my Aqua C Remora skimmer has been filling up like crazy. Seems like I'd have to empty it every 30-60 minutes! It's filling with mostly clear water and a tiny bit of foam, but the water is by no means disgusting so I'm not even sure what it's skimming. I shut it off over night and today while I'm at work so it won't overflow all over the place (nobody at home to empty it for me). Can anybody tell me why this is happening? Is this normal? Do I have too much water in the tank? I cleaned out the sponge at the bottom of the output in the box, but that didn't change anything.

Help!

You should be able to adjust the amount going in, or raise the cup a bit. Either way, it's not creating the dry foam that you want, so you'll need to tinker with it until it's running at the correct rate. Skimmers are not really 'plug-and-play'.

Oh, didn't realize I was supposed to tweak it. Ooops. So if I push that rubber seal down on the collection cup I should get less water and more foamy crud.

Also, what kind of additives are you using? Things like stress coat make the skimmer go nuts in a not so good way.

I've been adding a little bit of Kent Marine pH pro buffer to help get my pH closer to 8.2 (it's pretty much 8.0 now) and using a little bit of the Kent marine Calcium additive to combat anything the pH additive does to the calcium based things in the tank.
