Female usually has more gold speckling on the belly and rounder fins, w/o the sharper extensions of the male.

Females are usually more colorful. One of the clearest signs is a yellow-orange spot that develops on the underside of females when ready to breed. While males generally do have larger fins I've had a number of females that developed fairly prominent dorsal extensions.
