OK- here I sit with brand spankin' new jugs of B-Ionic that have been sitting here since January- but my parameters never change.
Is that good?
I even bought a second set of test kits because I didn't trust that things would be so... unchanging. Same results, all kits Salifert.

Since 1/10/04 I have had 420 ppm Calcium and 3.5 meq/L alkalinity. Sure they flucuate a tad after a water change, but they have never yet needed adjusting. I'm using Instant Ocean and RO/DI water.

I am running on the assumption that my water change schedule must simply be keeping up with my tanks needs, but exactly?

Is there anything else I should consider?

Sure,

Set up a new tank with a UG filter, crushed coral, 2 big airstones in the tank, and a penguin filter. Oh, dont forget about using one NO pink aquarium light for the lighting that you will need for Giant clams. This should help make you feel like you really need to do something as you will have your hands full :D

Really though, You may be doing enough water changes to suply your tank with its needs according to your bioload. If everything is looking good, why change it.

An important point--how many organisms do you have that need lots of calcium? If you don't have lots of stony corals or bi-valves, the calcium levels can be easily replenished with water changes.
