Have had UGF for months now - no problem. Bought a new tank + decided to use a Fluval system. Weeks have past & still the 'bacterial bloom' remains, can anyone help?

Note - is it bacterial bloom?

Can you give a little more info? Size of the tank and filter? Was this tank seeded with bacteria or cycled from scratch?

A bacterial bloom generally happens with a new tank. It happened when I had just moved my 29g that was already cycled and using a Fluval 204. It lasted about 2 weeks and went away.

24 inch mechanical filter set up, fluval 1 -(supposidly cycled nitrate/nitrite ammonia levels as per UGF), blooming began again. Very strange. Changing water regularly, cleaning filter (with carbon included), 2 weeks have passed, any ideas?

I am simply not understanding you.
What do you mean by "it"?

1) What are the symptoms of your "biological bloom"?
You say "the bloom remains" and "blooming began again" but what exactly are you describing?
Cloudy water??
What exactly is the tanks problem?

2) What are your tank parameters?
Have test kits?
Please post the numbers!

Sandywatt, no one is trying to put you off looking for advice here, we've all been in similar frustrating situations at one time or another. What people are asking is for you to be really clear and specific with your questions / problems. If you need to take half a page to describe fully what is going on then that is usually going to get better responses than a few lines that people have difficulty deciphering.

Hope that helps.

To try and assist with your problem. It sounds like what you are describing is a bacterial bloom caused by switching over to a different filter. This can take a few weeks to disappear but shouldn't be hurting the fish. Keep any eye on your water chemistry, check fish for signs of stress and wait a bit longer. Your new filter has got to 'catch-up' with growing bacteria before the cloudiness will vanish. Sometimes, SLOWLY raising the temperature a few degrees (to about 80F) will speed the process up without stressing the fish out too much.

:D
