I have some calcium deposits on a ten-gallon tank and I was wondering if there is any way I could get them off. Thanks.

Well, I have tons of it on my 10g too, so don't feel bad. you can
get a sponge and warm water and scrub, or, you can do like i did and get a product called http://www.petsmart.com/images/product/large/in601368.jpg Aquarium Pharmaceuticals Safe & Easy Aquarium Cleaner. It works great. I strongly reccomend you getting it. So easy to use, and doesn't harm your fish.

I have used Safe and Easy, but I have also used a brand called Seri Clean. They both worked really well.
i've heard vinegar works well.

I'm wondering if some of it may be salt build-up? Are you using salt?

Yea Joe, I think that's what he means, I put salt in every once in awhile, and I get white crusty stuff on the lid.
With hard water you don't need salt - the carbonates and bicarbonates will do just fine without help. Ever been to Carlsbad or Mammoth Cave? :)

When I had the tank set up I had it half full so I could breed pearl gouramies in it and when some of the water evaporated it left a white line half way down the tank.

AAaah,
the stains and build up from hard water is a pain to clean.. Scraping seems safest. Never tried AP Safe and Easy; sounds good though.

The Safe and Easy stuff works great, you spray the white crap, and in 3 minutes, wipe it off with a sponge and it's gone.

It is so VERY easy and cheap, just soak the affected part in vinegar or if it is on the frame place soaked paper towels on it and relax in a couple of hours it will wipe off, no rubbing, scraping or hassel My 2nd hand tank had almost 1/4 in of it on the lid and frame 2 hours tops and it was gone, Alberta has the hardest water also
