There is something killing stuff in my tank. I think that it is a bacterial thing. My blue/geen chromis went friday.(hole in the head maybe?) So along with my clowns That makes 3 in a week. My yellow tang looks healthy as a horse. My snails seem fine. the cleaner shrimp are good and the crabs are fine as well.

I don't want to tear the tank down. Can I treat the tank with antibiotics with the critters in it? What about the good bacteria that keeps ammonia from being a problem?

Should I take the whole thing down and start again?

Don't treat that tank with anything until you know what is going on- that is a sure fire way to make things worse and cloud the issues. Things will get so fungooled up that you may never know what happened.

In order for us to be of any help we need to know
When was the tank established.
What it contains.
When your cycle was complete.
Your numbers. We need your most recent test readings- ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, temp, SG- everything is speculation without firm test results to work from.
And a brief history of the sequence of events.

But again- don't add anything (especially an antibiotic) until you know what is going on.

If you need something to do in the meantime- get some saltwater mixed and ready for the water changes ahead.
If you simply must do something- change 25% of the water.
But no meds!!

ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrates <10
ph 8.3
sg 1.022

cycle started 14 feb 04
ended roughly 20 march
added 50 lbs of rock and 2 clowns end of march
1 clown died 2 days later, treated the remaining clown for a fungus.(in hospital tank) white cottony looking...

waited 2 weeks added a yellow tang

2 weeks later added a blue green chromis. he had a couple of scales missing. I thought that he was ok but obviously not.

along with the chromis I got a couple of hermits. they fought and a couple of them died...

a month or so later added the clowns.

BTW I didnt quarantine the first or last set of clowns
