pondering new tank and filter

I am thinking of buying a 55 gallon tank and making a custom stand to place my 20 below and the 55 gallon tank on top of it what would hte best filter choices be to select from, as I am thinking along the lines of planted and plenty of fish also. not sure about the fish population yet but maybe a biome sort all from same place.
 
For planted I would recomend a canister. That way if you inject co2 it wont gass off like it can with HOB filters. I use a Fluval 304 for my planted 55. Been running for almost a year with diffuser and no problems.
