I was curious how this floating plant ships? Does it do well? Seeing how its winter here in PA. I am curious? Would it be ok in the postal service for a few days in this weather?

I want to send some to a hobbiest in the next state. How would one ship a floating plant...Throw it in some tupperware and package it?

Anyone?

Thanks for the help and info..

Not sure, but we might have an answer (mailed in December from Central Canada to the east coast).

Calling Jukax! How did the Salvinia survive?? Maybe you could PM him? It was just in a wet newspaper/Baggie. I think sloshing water would damage the roots, but I'm not sure.

I've had it shipped in. It was bagged just like a fish. I'd say about half of it was brown when I got it but the rest perked up. It was shipped USPS Priority. Smae goes for most plants. Use a heatpack in this colder weather if possible.

Tip: Be ready to throw it out by the handfuls in the near future. This stuff spreads like wildfire. I love it. And the good thing is, it isn't itty bitty like some duckweed, so it's easier to control.

Here is a site if you want to read up on it:

Thanks all of you for the help and the info... I appreciate it.

Kveeti,

Yeah this stuff spreads like wildfire. I only started with about 5 floating plants. Now my tanks are full of the stuff. The duck week I like as well. Just reminds me of smaller salvinia plants.

Thanks again for the info..

Salvinia is rather pretty, but in California, it is not legal to have it because of its tendency to spread so quickly. Make sure that when you dispose of it, that you do it properly and it doesn't escape into the "wild".

I'm not sure that it's legal to send to all states either. You may want to check on that.
