the ghost fish and the pleco do not necesarily need one.. as long as your sure it wont get bellow room temp in the tank.

i dont know anything about glassfish, but i'm pretty sure they need a heater..

but its good to have one just in case.

but just FYI the pleco will get to be 18 inches long, and that ten gallon isn't going to be nearly enough for him. thats what i had my pleco in for several months before i learned how big he can get.. now that i know how much room he needs, i have to get rid of him. :(

What is the average temp of the tank? What are the extremes?

YES, a heater is needed. No matter where you live, I promise you your tank has temp swings if it has no heater to regulate things. Too many people confuse a heater with "only needed to heat the aquarium" when in fact its just as important to have a constant temperature. ;)

my room stays at a constant 72-75 degrees.. so does the water for some reason

OK, well for most tropical fish they prefer 78-80 degrees F. So if you plan to keep tropical fish in the near future, a heater would be a good thing to have! :D

You might want to just buy another pot. Their relatively inexpensive as tank decorations so. The problem with using a pot is that it should ideally be unglazed. But if it is unglazed and you have been planting in it, then it probably absorbed chemicals from potting soil and fertilizers you may have used.

YOu could try to boil or soak it out, but that can be time consuming. Just go to Walmart and buy another one. Their only a buck or so.
