Okay here is my question. I got a 55 gallon tank for free the only deal is that the center brace is missing. It broke. I just finished cyclying it and some one said that since the brace is gone the tank will fall apart. Is the true? could i use some sort of homemade metal brace? There is a guy who lives around here and if i get a hold of him i might be able to get him to put one in this tank. All he does is glue one on the inside.
Should i be worried or not?

With the center brace not being there it will put a lot of stress on the rest of the glass. The brace is there to help hold a lot of outward pressers. I would empty the tank and talk to your LFS and see if they know where you can get a new top section for your tank. I know they are sold but don’t recall who will sell them. I don’t know what would work as far as a home made brace but if you put one you would need to d it when the tank is empty, then when it fills it will help with the pressers but I would still try to find a new top section for that tank.
