I just tried to take out my mollies because I was finally ready for REAL FISH!!!!! 2 clowns, 5 green/blue Chromis and 1 LM Blennie. All are fine! But one of my mollies when defensive stonghold on me and backed up under the LR. So the babies and 4 mollies went back to LFS, and one is still in there. He's not a problem, so it's fine if he stays, though he's not very attractive.

But for future reference, are there any tricks on getting a fish out efficiently, whether they be a nuisance, or sick or whatever, without stressing the other fish too bad? My LM Blennie freaked a little, he's unusually shy, but the other fish weren't in the tank yet, so the blennie just hid in his cave.

Thanks.

Ermm...

Maybe I'm just not familiar with some terminology here, but aren't mollies freshwater fish? Liverock is generally a saltwater phenomenon... Is the water in this tank fresh or salty? If it's salty, that's really not too good for the molly and if it's fresh, it might have already killed the beneficial organisms on the live rock...

If the water is fresh, I hope you have a cycled saltwater tank to keep those saltwater fish in until you can cycle your freshwater tank... Most of those fish could probably survive a cycle, but it is cruel and unnecessary. Fresh water tends to kill saltwater fish and vice versa.

EDIT:
OK. I had forgotten Mollies are brackish. Never actually had a molly, but always saw them in freshwater systems.

Get a cup and put some sort of heavy food item into the bottom ,"like an algae wafer". Mollies tend to be little piggies IMO and it'll swim into the glass to get at the food and voila molly under glass. This won't work with most s.w. fish but, will be fine with the mollies. Good luck if you ever have to catch a damsel.

The mollies are fresh OR saltwater

They came out of a freshwater tank at the LFS, but cycled my tank perfectly. They even had two births of around 25 fry each. One accidentaly got caught under some live rock for 3 weeks. We happened to rearange the rocks later and found him. He was 1/2 the size he was but still alive and perfectly healthy except for being the runt. These Mollies don't care, they are happy anywhere as long as you feed them! They are piggies.

I keep some in my 90 gallon because of the number of fry that they produce. MY s.w. fish really enjoy the occasional live snack and they are also pretty good at keeping uneaten food to a minimum  . They haven't seemed to be hurt by their acclimation to s.w. as far as I can tell either. Well except for the ones that tried to hide in my anemone that is.

what about cichlids , aren't some of them brackish firsh ?

Are mollies used as food source in some SW tanks ?

I was actually wondering if FW fish could be kept in SW tanks a few days ago. Would it be cruel to use them as food for SW fish ?. if you could get them to breed & use the fry as food.
