Hi everyone,

I just dug out my old mini tank (~2 gallons, one of those little hexagonal shaped ones) and decided to try my hand at keeping a few fish. I didn't know what suggestions anyone would have from experience. I would like white cloud mountain minnows but I've heard keeping less than six isn't smart. Any suggestions as far as species and numbers would be appreciated.

If it really isn't a smart idea to try keeping fish in such a small tank, let me know and I may go ahead and buy a bigger one.

Cheers,
Eric

Personally, I feel you'd just be setting yourself up for failure if you started this 2 gallon again. Fish need heat, they need a filter, and most importantly, they need stability. If you even cycle this thing, will the nitrates be kept under 20-30 ppm? How often will you need to do water changes? Will the temperature stay constant? Which fish CAN you get?

All these questions are ones you will face and I think upgrading would be better. JMO. :D

lol probably all you could keep in there would be a guppy and a Small Cory, But Thats After The Cycle:laugh:

I would encourage you to look into planting the tank and stocking it with a few cherry shrimp. I have a similar setup, and after battling to keep a betta in it, I gave up--just too much trouble to keep it stable. The inverts will deal with small temp fluctuations easier, will love the plants, and produce less waste. They are very entertaining to watch, as well, and easy to care for.
