OK, I probably posted in the wrong place before- so I'll repost here.
After surfing here for a while I thought I'd jump on the band wagon! I have a 46-55 gallon bow front tank that currently has a Penquin 330 biowheel on it now. (The reason I say 46-55 gallon is that the person I bought it from said it was a 55 but it seems the same size as a 46-48 I've seen in stores). After looking over previous posts on canister filters, I ordered a Filstar XP-3 to go on it. Now here are the questions:
What would be the best biological filter media to put in it? (something reuseable)- balls, donuts, brand, cost, ahhhhhh!!!
Has anybody tried the new Eheim pro biological material? (the one that looks like balls?).
How much should I buy?
I was going to keep the biowheel too (or should I?) What should I put in it's baskets for mechanical filtration? Or should I put some more biological filtration media in the baskets? What is a good alternative to purchasing those pre-made inserts that always contain carbon? I saw a new insert that at Drs Foster and Smith that gives it even more biological sites, would this be a good investment?
Currently the tank has:
2- dojo loaches
2- fancy pl*co
5 - elrey tetras
5 - yellow tail congo tetras
3- platties
plants - hardy type - anubias, java moss, java fern, and I'm trying some sword plants (I've trained my pl*cos to eat from the same feeding rock that I supply them with spinich and cucumber every day with, if it runs out before I have a chance to put more, they hang out there like a dog hanging over an empty bowl! LOL!)
Thanks
