im getting a pair of these in 3\4 weeks;
does anyone know of any suitable african tank species???
im really after a top\middle dweller hopefully...

My Blockhead lives with a wide variety of Africans including zebras, L. fuelleborni and some Melanochromis species. At first, he faced off with both big blue zebras but now he gets along fine with everyone and even hops around on top of the rocks. He will also come out for his "cookies"(sinking tablets) when I lightly tap on the glass.
He is a great fish! When I first saw them in a book, I thought they were ugly, but I have grown quite fond of Mr. Blocky. ;)
They are all in a 38 right now, waiting to be moved to a 55.

My book on Tangs says that they are pretty much ok with any fish that doesn't occupy the same water space. So mid-water or top-water fish should be suitable ( I assume this rules out Neolamprologus sp.). If they breed however, all other fish should be removed (according to the book). I am hopefully getting a pair soon as well! I can't decide on blockheads or to go for shellies.
I thought these came from W African fast flowing rivers, not the lakes. Congo tetras, riverine synos?

they are from the african rivers, as far as i know
(Kit -- you may want to look at your water perameters...ive read they like soft water, ph 6-7.5...)
i was just after some ideas.....
over here ive seen them in a local lfs for £7.00.........
they look very lonely in that big old tank......

Guys your right! What was I thinking! I forgot they are a river african not a lake african, preferring conditions same as for Kribensis. Oh well, looks like I'm getting shellies because the tank pH is setup for Lake Tangs. Looks like I'll need another tank for Blockheads...multiple tank syndrome continues...

hey kit...
i want shellies too; only my tank water is too acidic\soft to keep.....
ill keep lumpheads, if you keep shellies..:D ;)
fantastic little workers I keep a pair in a mixed tang and malawi tank @8.5 they are perfectly happy
