I have an extra 37 gallon tank lying around (dimension are 30 long x 12 wide x 24 high).

Would that comfortably house a single severum and a school of cories? I have looked around the net, but there seems to be alot of varying opinions about these fish and their care.

Severums

I see no problem with it at all.

I am breeding them in a 45 gallon right now, have been for years infact. They share the tank with a hoplo cat and I am having no problem at all.

As long as you keep the water quality good the fish should thrive.

Volume wise I would say you are fine (assuming good filtration and maintenance) if you happen to get a big boy, he could top out around 12 inches, and a 12" deep tank will be difficult, but still not impossible. Most adult Severums I've seen range from 8-10" so there wouldn't be a problem. As was said clean water will be the key.

If you have no plants, I'd go with an RFUG and an AC 300 or Emporer 400, with plants, the common suggestion is canster, but I can't advise much on canisters I have yet to try them.

best cannister ehiem by far, german enginnering is far better. next best is fluval (I use 304s on my 55s).
