Does anybody use this type of filter? I have mine with an almost new cartridge and the water is coming with a peculiar odor, is this normal?

I used that particular filter for some time. I never noticed any smell from the water. You should really consider a nice RO/DI filter system. I know they are expensive but if I had to use my tap water filter for everything on my tank I would go through one a week. I only have a 30 gallon tank. I bought one on ebay for cheap and it works great!

Seriouly though, you shouldn't have any smell coming through. How fast are you pumping water through it? If you go too fast, it doesn't work effiently enough to get everything.

8oz in 25 to 30 seconds, I have a 37 gallon, and seems like those cartridges go fast; no too so cost effective from someone that lives in a high polluted tap water area...JON: Would you tell me more about your RO unit? And if possible give me the ebay member or store you got it from.
Thanks for your help.

for some reason this forum would not let me post so I registered again. Anyways, I bought pretty much this unit

This is the person I bought it from. It works great but if I would have thought about it I really didn't need 110 gpd. I could have saved some money and went with a smaller unit. Besides, the slower the gpd, the better the rejection rate. Pretty easy to hook up, works great.

Jon, remember that the Aq. Pharm. Purifier can be recharged. I don't remember if it uses salt or bleach (CHECK FIRST!) but it is rechargeable. To what extent it recharges, I dunno. I've never used one, but most people that I know that have one like theirs and recharge them often.

recharging

I have two of the filters that I seperated the resins in. I get about 30 gallons and then have to recharge. You have to use 100% lye and acid to recharge. A quick google search will give you the directions. I get as good of water as a ro/di, jst a little extra work involved in recharging.
