i awoke this morning to the site of one of my goldfish beating up the other. i ran to the tank and realized they were "mating" (more like raping, but...) the tank is bare and there are eggs all over the bottom! i tried scooping them out but i ended up squishing them since they seem to stick to everything. so should i just take out the fish when they are done? there was a little moore in there trailing behind them scooping up the eggs for a delicious snack so i took him out. should i lower the water level to a few inches or so? (i read somewhere to do that).

i would have posted in coldwater but figured id get a better response here since i think i need it quickly. (when theyre done wont they just have a giant feast?)
thanks in advance!

iam not an expert but i think you should take all fish from the tank as they WILL eat the eggs! also if the eggs hatch don't put the fish back straight away because some fish will still eat the young fish. so perhaps when they hatch put the young fish in a small tank and return the older fish into the orginal tank

you should add some sort of moss/grass for them to spawn on next time. My parents have lots of goldfish in a pond (probably around 800 gallons estimated) and they continually have babies in there although it seems to be around 20 or 30 a batch. Kyle

yeah from what i've heard, a good idea is to get a braided rope, and knot it, then fray one end, so that it looks like a pom pom.

and set it, pompom side down, so that it floats in one place in the aquarium (like attach the rest of the rope to a corner of the aquarium. similar to a pond plant, except the goldfish wont eat the rope (they might try though, so watch out!)

it works similar to a bubblenest like a beta wil build.

i've heard that once the eggs are laid, its a goot idea to separate off that part of the aquarium, or move them to a separate tank ASAP cuz mama and daddy will be ready for lunch after all that lovin':p
