was wondering if others were concerned of overflow in the sump should the power go out? was thinking of inserting valves in both the overflow tube and on top of the return line so that i can stop the flow manually when needed, but what happens if the power goes out when i'm not there? is there some type of electrical switch that others are using? are there options that others are using? am i worrying about something thats for not?

Most of us just leave enough room in the sump to hold the water that drains down when the power goes off. With a good siphon break in your return line (so a reverse siphon doesn't accidently kick in) it only amounts to a couple of gallons or so you need to leave room for.

Obviously this is something you play with a lot and do many test runs before trusting your plan.

thanks for the input. drilling a hole in the return line near the level of the water makes better sense than my idea. thanks again
