Ok, this is my weird idea. the way aquaclear filters work, seems like it'd be possible to attach plexiglass between the intake chamber and the media chamber to isolate them from each other, then put another piece of plexiglass in the bottom with small holes drilled in it, maybe covered with a screen. Now, just attach a prefilter and add fluidized bed media and you have yourself a self-contained FB filter!

what do you think?:p
 
May work, but I expect that a rectangular chamber won't fluidize as evenly as a cylinder. Also, you will have to come up with the perfect screen to keep the sand in the chamber, but allow good flow. Overall, a lot of work for a potentially unreliable contraption.
 
I agree... it's probably be a lot easier to make one out of pvc. this was one of those OO I KNOW WHAT I COULD DO! Ideas that has lots of problems... maybe I should have put it on halfbakery.com instead:laugh:
