My nitrites havent droped in 2 weeks, my nitrates have gone up.
I was doing daily water changes but a LPS said that nitrites can spike after a water change. So its been about 5 days since i changed the water, and nothing is getting better. HELP!

Hi there,

We need some more information on your tank setup before we can help you -- take a quick look at this thread to get an idea of what info would be good for us to know. And one critical question -- are there fish in the tank, or are you doing a "fishless" cycle? I'm assuming the former, but just making sure.

Your LFS was misinformed -- is not true that water changes cause a nitrite spike. Post some tank details, and we'll try to get you some more help.

Ive got a 29 gallon with sand as substrate, 2 tetras, a platy and a pleco. PH is about 8.4 nitrite is about 4 ppm +. Ive been useing 1/2 tps of sea salt per gallon when i do water changes. recently added plant bulbs,

Has your tank been completely cycled?? Generally nitrites do not spike if the tank has a stable bacteria culture, becuase the bacteria instantly changes the nitrites to nitrates. A nitrite spike means that there is a serious misbalance in your tank usually.

My tank is not cycled yet. Im getting nitrate readings, but the nitrite isnt dropping. I wouldnt call it a spike, they just arent dropping.
