I want a zebra loach, but have questions...

I want to add a zebra loach to my tank, but I would only be able to put 1 in. Would this be ok? I know they prefer groups, but I am hoping 1 by itself would do ok. It would be in a 46 gallon with danios, tetras, otos, and cories.

I can almost gurantee that he will die. You may be able to make him survive, but these fish NEED to be with others, I have tried before, also at my pet store, when we are down to one in the tank, it generally dies. You can try, but chances are you won't be able to make it work.

Many years ago (about 13), I bought 3 zebra loaches for my tank. After about a year, 1 of them died, but the other two have been swimming happily to this day.
They sure seem to like each other, they spend most of their time together. I don't think keeping a solitary specimen is a very good idea.

Don't know what you can make of this but I only have one Botia striata in my 90g tank. I also have 2 yo-yo loaches that he hangs out with sometimes. No problems.
Maybe you could go with 2 in a 46g?
