I had 2 dwarf pearl gourami and a small 1.5in angel a while back with no trouble.

I have heard if an angel is put in a tank as a baby, it will learn that its tank mates are not food, and so when it grows to a size where they fit in his/her mouth they arnt eaten. But this can depend alot on individual setups (as most things in this hobby :))

I'd be more worried about the angelfish than the gourami... for a couple of reasons. First, many gourami are quite aggressive. A kissing gourami would be a particularly bad tankmate, for example, for an angel.

Second, some gourami are loaded with disease and/or internal parasites due to terrible fish-farm breeding conditions (the dwarf or 'powder blue' gourami comes to mind). Angels can be quite susceptible to disease and I'd worry about pairing them unless the gourami had been thru and extensive quarantine.

I can think of better tankmates for an angelfish... many tetras will coexist peacefully with an angel, for example.

i actually just got a 30g aquarium, and i'm begining to stock it.
i've always wanted an angel but i also have dwarf gouramis, and well i haven't had any problems yet.
what do you guys think about getting angel then?

I wouldn't suggest it. Generally, the combination of angels and gouramis are avoided because they both tend to have a territorial outlook, and a nippy personality - and each has "longish" fins. I think they'd both pick on each other and it would be a shame to tear up an angel's gorgeous fins!

that's great thanks so much, i was also worried about the angel eating my neons.
i guess i will just stick with the gouramis and get some danio's.
thanks for the info.

I had a Zebra Lace Veil Angelfish(still do) and then stupidly added a Pearl Gourami. He shredded my Angelfish's fins down to nothing. All of them. I bagged him up and took the little B****** back to the LFS.

R.S. What size tank and how many angels are you planning on?

With the angels I have and have had I've kept glo light tetras, zebra danios, gold long finned danios, cory julii, and pekolita sp clown plecos. But be warned, the best fish in my experience with angels are smaller fish that can move faster than the angels. Not all angels will be nippy, but they have been known to get a bit aggressive, to say nothing of chasing the other fish off the food.

I keep a Boesami Rainbowfish with my Angelfish and they get along great.

Actually they follow each other around and get into mischief together. And the Boesami is a beautiful fish.

He chases the Angel occasionally. But only extremely briefly and has never tried to hurt him. I think he's only being playful as Rainbowfish are very energetic fish.
