I've been seriously considering setting up a Malawian tank with a few fish. Adding a huge tank to my habitat isn't really possible, though I could go with a 42G. What do you Malawian folks think of keeping a few fish in a 3ft long tank such as a 42G?

I'm thinking of the following:

3 Labidochromis caeruleus (1m, 2f)
3 Pseudotropheus saulosi (1m,2f)

Thanks in advance for your suggetsions.

42G Malawian tank

I think it's a terrific idea myself.
You could even go with more fish than just six. You could add a nice peacock trio to the mix or even a plecedochromis electra trio and a cool synodontis catfish too. Lots of fish to choose from, you'll just want to go with mild mannered Malawis.
The more rocks you add the better for this environment to create zones for the housing. Keeping the diet the same is the key to happy home with Mbuna, and you'll do fine feeding them a spiralina
veggie based diet.
Lots of luck in your decision, FG

A 42g is pretty small for a malawi tank. I wouldn't add botht he Labs and the saulosi. I would jsut stick with one species and then get 1m/3f.

I would definately not recommend any of the haps or peacocks species. They are open water swimmers so a 42g jsut isn't big enough. Plus keeping haps and mbuna is hard enough in larger tanks.

If you really want a malawi tank i would stick with one species of the more peaceful mbuna(1m/3f)
