it seems that the eggs my convict laid about 2 1/2 days ago are missing ,but no babys. the male is still protecting the nest and the female continues to dig to make the nest even bigger. whats going on?

It could be that they have hatched into wrigglers... little baby fish that can't yet swim, but instead just "wriggle". They will do this until they have used up the contents of their yolk sac and have to find their own food.
what kind of gravel do you have?
if its too big the "wrigglers" can fall inbetween the gravel and fall to the bottom of the tank and die. i have many batches of fry die this way when i used to have a breeding pair of blue acaras.
