Here's a couple photos of Brutus in the pond. Couple of them I guarantee you have never seen of a Pacu.

Note the full grown Red Devil in the top left.
http://www.aquamojo.com/pond/pond%20302b.jpg

Large Pleco (14") on the bottom...the little guy on the left is a foot in length...and right above Brutus's head is an adult female Dovii.

...and the mouth...

http://www.aquamojo.com/pond/pond%20301cub.jpg

You can see the adult Jack Dempsey that was a little late getting to the spirulina wafers.

That's an adult female Argentae below his head. Gives you some perspective on how thick his body is.

Those are some impressive fish you got! But also, very intimidating to look at, let alone feed or change the water for.

OMG!! Those teeth!! That fat body!! He's humungo!!

I assume you don't put your hands in there to change the water!! He's really cool though. He looks as though he's smiling at the camera!

It's the little guy you have to watch out for...and that's only cause he's constantly hungry. All of them are docile and shy even. He recognizes me and will come to the surface to be fed...startle him and be prepared for a shower.

From what I hear, they eat fruit in the wild. I remember seeing some footage of them waiting under trees for figs to drop. You ever tried it?

Is it just me, or does Brutus remind anyone of the creatures from the "Alien" movies?

When he opens his mouth does another mouth shoot out?

I thought he was a Pacu, but I've never seen a Pacu that could swallow an average 11-month-old child.

No...sorry...we won't be eating my pet anytime soon. however if you would like to offer up your poodle or little brother...I'll get the fillet knives.

He eats pretty much everything. Really likes canned veggies, spirulina, and shrimp pellet. I have literally fed this fish two cups of pellet...poured right down his throat.

My goodness man, that is a HUGE fish!
I'd be afraid to look into something like that's eyes.
That's why I stick to the tetras heheheh

Pacus ARE tetras :)

Brutus is at lease 10 years old. THe live a lot longer than that. I read where the Black Pacu (Colossoma macropomum) can live 65 years.

characins crack me up with their mouths how they can only move their lower jaw:laugh:

No...sorry...we won't be eating my pet anytime soon.

when can we eat it then?

MoJo

I realize that was meant as a joke...but I classify humor like that right up their with a comment on eating a family member. It's only funny cause it's a stupid statement made by uneducated morons. So I AM laughing...but not WITH you.

Then I apologise for having made that statement. It's certainly not in my nature to intentionally hurt anyone. Sorry.

Woah. Awesome fish. Thanks for sharing the pictures!! It looks like he's smiling to me:D

BTW, you just made me look at my little fish and realize what pathetic sissies they are;) Here I was, about 10 min ago, cutting up frozen bloodworms into teeeny pieces because my adult threadfin rainbows can't eat a whole piece - won't fit in their mouths. Then I come and check out pictures of a fish that could make a snack out of my cat LOL

Very cool.

What would you do if you ever needed to treat him for something? I don't suspect you've got an extra tank lying around for a fish that size. Treat the whole tank? Call the vet? If I had a big, old fish like that I'd probably want a vet to do it! Assuming I could even find one that would make housecalls for a fish....

He's 34", 21 pounds. At the center of his body he is 7" thick. His caudal fin is 12" from top to bottom.

That's HUGE! I've had dogs smaller than that. I could see how someone would feel more affection for a fish that big than the tiny fish most people have. It's more your size scale, ya know? Not like a little, living toy-like creature. Seems more like a baby to you.

Wow That's One Awesome Fish.!

What Size Home "Pond" Do You Have In.?
What Do You Do With Him In The Winter Time, And What Do You Put Him In If You Bring Him Inside.?

You have over 800 posts, you should know by now there are more than a few people here that treat their fish as family. Pets are pets and they're members of the family. It's like saying,
"gee, your golden retreiver is getting kind of fat. WHEN DO WE EAT!!!"

use your head before you make comments like that.

yeah i know were you coming from cdawson but if he knew it was a joke why take is so seriouse? its not like were going to break in and eat his beloved pacu although he looks mighty tasty lol:p + mojo a moderator called myself and a board member morons for making a joke to "a member of his family" which isnt very nice when 99% of the people thought the joke was funny

so were my post came from was from what i concider a family member someones who is related to you thru blood, marriage etc id see the pacu as being a family pet not a member

i dont see how a post

both of these are both clearly non seriouse statments and i think is abit childish to carry on like that

Dragon_Lord_Tia

MoJo

The Pacu is in the pond. 1600 galons. I haven't fed him lettuce. But he can eat a handfull of cherries in a couple seconds.
