Where would you rather live?
And I realize that Boston is on a fault line, potentially bigger than the San Adreas fault, but we haven't felt a big earthquake in a looong time....

I would have to say that I would rather live on the south shore (poipu) rather than tehe east side (Lihue). OK, I know that are only about 12 miles apart but hey. :D

The "weather unpredictable" is exactly like Michigan. Let's see, it rained about an inch yesterday, and today it's about 90 degrees and so dry.
We've had about 2.46 inches of rain this month! Thats June 1st - June 16th. Last month, at that date, it was 1.19 inches. We've had nothing but T-Storms all month, so....

You forgot predictable and no natural disasters. I'm dying to get back to the southwest (AZ,CO,NM) where the weather can be counted on to be decent most of the time.

I don't mind unpredicatable weather, and while I'm not thrilled with either tornadoes or earthquakes, I won't move just to avoid them. Wyoming has blizzards, sub-zero temps, some days in the 90's, howling winds, earthquakes and tornadoes...Keeps it exciting. :) Of all of them, I'd only change the wind--keeping it below 45 mph would be nice.
Colorado is nice, but sheesh, predictable? Where in CO were you? I've witnessed it go from 80 and calm to pouring rains and damaging winds in the course of an hour! All the places that I would like to live now have way too many people--or are too far onto the plains.

Hey have you ever seen those houses that they move? I don't mean when movers go in your house and move your furniture so that you can live somewhere else, I mean when they lift up the whole house and take it away. It's on like a flatbed that goes 8 mph and can only travel in certain times of the day. So, don't like the weather? Move your house somewhere else. Don't like the neighbors? Move. How great is that?

It all seems very pleasant when I sit here far away.
Here in MD it's predictably awful. Whether it's rainy and bad, icy and bad, or just hot and humid, you know it will suck.

There is no location that is perfect. I'd like to be further north than I am now, but not too far- my bones have grown unused to cold. Locations that are affordable and pleasant don't always offer much in the way of jobs- retirement areas tend to attract folks with retirement income. Places with great job opportunities are costly to live in and way too populated IMO.
I'd like where I was right now if all the tourists and retirees would go home. But then our ecomony would crash.
If money were no option I would have a home in Savannah and a home in New Mexico- USA wise. Maybe a place in Vancouver.
But I'd really rather retire to Italy.

This poll started because my friend (who lives in San Diego) claims that she lives in the best place in the world because they have perfect weather practically year round. I told her no I live in the best place, because we have SEASONS, and the ground stays PUT!
mogurnda I didn't even think of the 'dessert' states as I like to call them!! Though they can reach temps in excess of 100', there's no humidity, which really proves to me the old New England saying "It's not the heat, it's the humidity that will get you!!"
Rocketman has the best idea of everyone, I think!

I like it right where I am, thanks. ;) We could use some more rain (we've only had about 6 inches total precipitation in the past 18 months), and we get some nasty wind storms (although tornadoes are EXTREMELY rare), but all in all our weather is pretty darn nice.
There's not a lot of good paying jobs, but the cost of living is very reasonable. I'm working two jobs right now, but in a year (at age 41) I'll have my house paid off. Population is under 50,000 with no larger cities within 180 miles, so traffic is not an issue.
And, let's not forget the aliens.

Yeah, I remember leaving the building in midday in midsummer in AZ and the heat hitting like a blast furnace, but it never bothered me that much. The humidity kills me here.

SoCal is a good place for the weather I hear, but I've heard about the rain - when there is rain - as well.
"As soon as one raindrop hits a windshield, it's like 'Stormwatch 2004!' and everyone stops. We all start driving into each other, people stay home from work, we have reporters out there like, 'do you see this falling water behind me? They're called rain drops, and I don't know how many of you know this but there are actually these rubber implements that move across the windshield and attempt to move the water off. Now back to you in the studio, I'm getting wet.' I feel like the town would react more favorably to a nuclear missile."

Southern Cali is a very nice place to live. They do have a rainy season (usually fall... around november) but after that its fairly warm and hardly ever rains. Not like here in Michigan, anyway!
And where I live, we've had 4.43 inches of rain this month. But this isn't normal for Michigan, we usually see a dry month of June.

I'd have picked any but the first option! We're not quite tornado alley, but I've lived amongst them my whole life. When I lived in Ohio, we went to Cedar Point for after-prom. When our bus got back from the trip, a tornado touched down right in front of our school  I was scared #$%^less!
The first summer I lived here (MN,) we got a huge tornado a few miles from my house. They're bigger out here than in Ohio ;) Earthquakes on the other hand...

Oh ya, you forgot to put this option in the poll:
Really humid and sunny weather, lots of tourists and hurricane evacuations!
I love Florida!

Well, none of the options fit this area so I didnt vote on one.
Jac, You want the west side then. That is a long 35-40 minutes away.
In all seriousness, you would not believe the micro climates we have here. This Island is only 27 miles long (round). Some areas are having drought conditions while the center gets around 500" of rain per year. We have desert catus in one spot and bananas in another. Pretty wild really.

I didn't vote.....
I would have chosen...... weather unpredictable or predictably miserable but no chance of tornado (or earthquake).
There've been just a few too many tornadoes around here in the past few years...... TIME TO MOVE!!!:)
And believe me - I'M LOOKING FOR MY HUBBY A NEW JOB! I can work from anywhere, and he makes more money, so he dictates where we live. I'm thinking of suggesting that he start a lawn/landscaping business "back home" even if it means I will have to work full time for a while.....

thats really interesting. i suppose there is an even bigger difference between all of the islands. whats the difference in the west side? is it hotter? more rainfall? i love plants, especially tropical ones and all of the ones i would love to grow im told can be grown in hawaii. woohoo-no more hauling in giant potted fruit trees when it gets cold! oh how i wish i could afford it...
whats the coldest it gets all year in kauai?

I think that I can handle just about any climate as long as:
1 - I have the ammenities of an urban centre within an hour or so drive (ie a good lfs :D )
2 - Nature nearby, I grew up in a small town, surrounded by trees and greenery, playing in fields and forests. If I stay surrounded by concrete for too long, well, I just can't.
3 - friendly people
4 - snow for at least a couple months a year, otherwise, why would I appreciate the sun?
So, Halifax is the best place for me. Although I wish the beer were cheaper!

Living in the UK we don't get earthquakes or tornados or any extremes of anything, but if i had the choice i would live right in the middle of tornado alley, i love storms and always wanted to see a tornado so it would be my ideal place to live

The beaches, sunsets, and the fishing is sooo much better!
What's an earthquake? Oh - but there is lightning alley over here to worry about some....

I'm content with OHIO except that we don't get enough snow and cold in the winter. I plan to retire somewhere cold like international falls minnesota. My job has put me in 42 states and 5 countries in the last seven years, there are a lot of beautiful places out there, but I still like Ohio.

Houston Rulz! I LOVE Hurricanes as they are pretty predictable but they are exciting too. I have been thru three. I hate unpredictable stuff like tornadoes and earthquakes....
Houston weather is unpredictable to those who have not lived here a long time, but I am so used to it, you learn to roll with the sudden flooding rain shower that turns to a cloundless sky and hour later. It's pretty funny!
Around here they say, if you hate the weather, just wait 15 minutes....

Apart from here!!!;)
I would love some form of weather every once in a while, even the weather forecasters sound bored on the TV....
"and tomorrows weather is....... (Drumroll).... hot and sunny"
We are just rolling into summer average daily temp is approx 45 degrees but with 70% - 80% humidity. Still when you put that up against the Uk I settle for here anytime..... Golf 365 days a year.... YAY !!!! :D

I believe hurricanes and torrnados are seasonal, so you could expect them every year. Earthquakes occur once in awhile.

The UK has probably some of the worst weather imagineable. It can be really hot with stupidly high humidity making it un- bearable. Then when its not hot and humid its windy, wet and quite cold. At the moment the weather is nuts here. July is meant to have temps of arround 30 degrees and mainly sunny. Instead the temps are about 17 degrees, wet (Floods in many low areas) and the other day recorded 5 inches of rain in 12 hours. We have had gales of up to 70 mph shutting bridges on the M 25 (Dartford). Overall its been a mess here lately.
