I am a going to purchase a SeaClear System II 46 gal tank to start my fist SW tank. I was curious if anybody has any experience w/ these type of tanks. If there is any advise on the best way to start my new tank that would help me out tons. Thanx!

I haven't looked into these particular setups, but pretty well all new tanks will require cycling, lighting, etc...I'm feeling lazy, so if you could list the specs of the tank (any filters that are included, the lighting, etc), that would help quite a bit.

It will also help to know what you're wanting to keep--fish, corals, crustaceans, a mix?

There are several threads offering details on cycling--listed as Stickies here, and some more over in the Marine Archives.

Ummm, wow. If you're paying anywhere close to that price, I'd advise you to go with something else. A bit of shopping, and you can pick up a 75, with decent lighting, for the same cost, and have many more options for fish.

Anyway--in either size tank--you'll want about 1.5 pounds of live rock for filtration. Some powerheads for water movement. If you plan on having any corals, I'd go for at least power compacts--if you just want fish and aren't worried about much of the LR hitch hikers, normal fluorescents will be fine.

In the 46, you will be able to have 3-5 fish, depending on size. Fish that stay less than 6 inches will be best--I'd probably avoid anything known to get bigger than 5 inches, myself. Some clown species, many gobies, the dwarf angels, some wrasses, will be on the list of possibilities. There are a number of inverts that you'll want as part of the cleaner crew--snails, crabs, shrimp, etc, as well.
