i just picked up some LR with some ivory bush coral on it that is pretty cool looking, anyway i have this rock in my 20 gallon nano tank with an orbit light at 400 watts which i am sure is enough , but was wondering about care etc... of this coral and is it hardy for a hard coral or what? any help would be appreciated as all tank parameters are great and would like to keep these guys alive.

thanks:D

As far as I know, oculina is extremely hardy and adaptable. One of the first corals to colonize new surfaces. I'll look it up tonight to get a little more info.

Are you really using 400 watts on a 20? If so, you might start with very short photoperiods, like an hour or two, to keep the coral from bleaching.

As with any stony coral, keep the calcium and alkalinity balanced. Ca at >400 and alk >2.5 will provide the calcium and carbonate the coral needs to grow.

I shot this colony on a wreck a few weeks ago. Is this what you have?

Did a little checking. They are indeed very easy to keep. They are very adaptable to different lighting, and, depending on where they live, may or may not be photosynthetic. If it's brown, it probably has zooxanthellae.

it is brown

and yes they are doing great and actually seeing new growth so pretty cool  :D ;) and yes that is what i have like you show in your picture.
