I have some brown algae on the front of my tank. It is a 46 gallon bowfront. I read somewhere that brown algae can be caused by not having enough light. I am wondering if maybe since the front is curved the light on the tank is not reaching the front and this could be causing it. Any help on how to get rid of it and maybe some fish that eat brown algae would be great. Thanks in advance.

I had a problem with brown algae in my 18T and I added some feeder ghost shrimp on a whim (not intending them to have any purpose) and the next morning the tank was sparkling! The plants were really coated the day before. Now no noticeable algae grows.

Shrimp might not be the instant fix for you as they were for my 18. I have another tank that is manifesting brown algae and my shrimp in there can't seem to get a handle on it... it's not taking over, but it isn't pretty either!

Worse comes to worst, you get the shrimp, your fish eat them, you are out $1 and you still have brown algae... it's worth a try, much better than adding "Algae Destroyer" which just scares me!

I Had the problem about two days ago, after i did a 25% water change and stoppef feeding my Pleco the elgae wafers, it mostly dissapeared over night, and yes, brown algae can be caused by low light levels.
