tube worms

My 55gal. is becoming over run with them. they are on every inch of every rock i have. and there are some on the glass in between cleanings. I know my butterfly in my bigger tank eats them right? would it be ok to put him in there for a week or two just to cut them down? hes not full grown. would moving him be too much stress and cause problems? I've read hes a hardy fish.

As long as the water parameters between the tank is the same, it shouldn't cause him too much stress to move--but make sure there's nothing else in there that he'll pick on. Fish introduced to deal with a pest often don't behave as desired. ;)
 
well I have some xenia and a hammer coral in there but from what i've read he should leave those alone. the rest of that tank is peaseful. the temp is a degree or two different and the amonia levels are a tenth or so off so I would still need to accl. him the same as when i bring a new fish home right. take some from his tank and put him in that and add alittle from the new tank in small incriments?
 
If there is ammonia in ths tank you're moving him too--I wouldn't. Wait until the tank stabilizes and the ammonia goes away. It will definitely stress the heck out of him to be moved into water with ammonia--and he will make it worse, by contributing to the waste load.

You can always pop the tube worms off yourself with a scraper--but they are harmless, so I'd probably just leave them be, especially if the tank hasn't finished cycling.
 
No the tank with all the tube worms is about ten months old now. the one hes in is about four months old. I just don't like how many tubeworms/ featherdusters there are in there. no amonia, no cycling here. Just everything has been goin good so i haven't been on here asking to many questions.
