I have another problem with my Volitan Lionfish. After 3 weeks of not eating I went back the the lfs where I bought the fish. They told me that the fish had been eating mollies and gave me a few for him to eat. After acclimating the mollies the lionfish did eat all 4 within 15 minutes. My problem is now I cannot find anywhere to buy small mollies to feed to the fish. I have tried to feed him krill, brine shrimp, blood worms, and rosies. I have been told that rosies are not good for him to eat anyway so they are out of the question. Does anyone know a place to buy feeder mollies in the Kansas City Missouri area?
Thanks,

Regular mollies can be acclimated to SW--just take it slow. This still will not be an ideal diet for him--make every possible effort to get him onto prepared foods, with the mollies as treats. It will mean being tough, since you can't give in and give him feeders him every other day.

Just stuff the mollies with the food you want the lion to eat. problem solved :D

Better, but not a perfect solution. The mollies will still have fats that are not metabolized well by a SW animal. Not nearly as many as a goldfish, but still not ideal. SW animals fed exclusively FW or acclimated BW fish tend to live short lives--kidneys eventually fail.

Ghost shrimp are another alternative--they wil acclimate to SW, and are better than mollies--gutloading them does indeed work well. Biggest problem--an adult lion won't be happy with them. They'd need so many a day that it would be ridiculous. Great for a juvenile, though, and a stop gap while you work on getting it to take prepared foods.
