I find most of my cichlid's colours are very bland but they are still very small. I am a newbie to Cichlids, and i am wondering if they all start off bland and develop when they mature?

What kind of cichlids are you talking about? Some are bland but some have almmost salt water fish type colors.
I got three Jack Dempseys, one Texas and two Firemouths. I don't really care about the Firemouths, and the texas too much but i am hoping my jack's will turn into Black ones that i saw at the fish store (Big Al's).
