I have an aquaclear 402 model with the air tube un attached and the prefilter installed. There is no place for air to get in, so I cannot figure out why I have tiny bubbles. The only things I can think of.
The pre filter?
The air tube hole being unplugged yet under water?

How long has it been plugged in and running? If less than a month, try turning it off, and then rotating it several times, in all directions, under water. They can get air trapped in them, and this will spew out for a while.
If it's been up for longer than a month, how far below the surface is it?

well its been in and out so it really has not been a month. Its only about an inch off the surface

Clean the prefilter.
