OK, I went to order the XP2 a few minutes ago and the original price was $86. But, they had it on sale for $69....they also have the XP3 marked down from $110 to $88.

So my last question is, is the XP3 too much filter for a 55g? Since I was going to spend $86 in the first place, I was thinking I should just spend an extra $2 and upgrade to a bigger one.

350 gph doesn't seem like too much, but the catalog says it is for up to a 175 gal.

Thanks.

I would think over filtering is not a bad thing and since you can adjust the spray bar in both direction and flow rate, I say go for the XP3.

I have an XP3 on my 46 gallon

And it is doing just fine. You can turn down the flow so it isn't so hard. (In fact it seems like my fish enjoy swimming in the current). Now I have tetras and loaches, I don't know how a discus may fare in it, but I don't think it is too much (I have it set so the force is less than my penguin 330.) I got it since it holds more media and you'll have more time in between cleanings :). I'd say go for the bigger model :)

Take care

I should be getting it anyday now.:D It's good to know you can adjust the flow.

I will be getting the hoods and lights whenver it comes in and start setting it all up. I can't wait, this is the largest tank I have ever owned.

If you know anything about lights, I am about to post a question regarding them in the plants forum....

LOL, no still learning

I have the lights on my tank that came along with the hood :). *sigh* I know if I keep up with this you guys will talk me into updating that too. LOL! My tetras are happy with this kind of light though, and I have pl*cos too that like things low key. I just grow anubias, java ferns, java moss, and some crypts and everythings fine. I do have a rubin sword thats growing in the center and putting on new growth though, so my light situation can't be that terrible.

Take care
