What type of fish should I add?

Well now that I'm cycled I want to add afew more fish into my tank. The specs are; 1 male betta, 5 neon tetras, 2 white cloud mountain minows, and 1 bronze cory in a 29 gallon water temp 78-82 degrees. What I'm not sure of first off is if it would be best to get anouther bronze cory? He seems ok alone not sure if they need companionship. Like wise with the White clouds I'm not sure if they'll need afew more to round out the school but they actually school with the neons when they get frightened (water changes/ hood light turning on). Other wise could I risk diversifying and adding a new species? Not that I'm not happy with the ones I have :D .

If I were you, this is what I'd do (wait a week or so between each addition, to allow your bacteria to gradually build up to accomodate the new bioload):

First: White Clouds - I'm not very familiar with white clouds, I do know that if fish school w/ different fish that their own kind, then they probably don't feel secure... I'd probably get a few more

Second: 1 or 2 more cories - while he doesn't need companions, he'd probably be happier with at least one buddy

Third: small school of other neons - what about glo lights or cardinals? Very pretty fish!

Good luck, have fun!

I've heard that tetras and bettas don't go well together since the tetras can nip betta fins. This is just hearsay though.

A few more cories is definitely a good idea, they like to be in groups.

I'd be tempted to fill out the schools of the existing fish for now, rather than to increase the number of species.

Definitely take time between adding fish to make sure that your biofilter has adjusted fully.

Once you've filled out the schools, look at your tank and the params that you measure before each water change. NO3 is a good indicator of the bioload on your tank. But frankly, I think that once you added a few more cories, some more minnows and a few more tetras, you'll be pretty well stocked.

I was thinking of adding anouther bronze cory and 2 white clouds. Would that work bio load wise? I'm thinking it might at most lead to afew extra water changes not that I'm not used to those ;) . I just don't want the water to swing to much since my neons are doing really well and they are really touchy fish. Happychem I don't recall reading any where that neons were fin nippers maybe other tetra species are though I think bleeding heart are. Otherwise if I can't find a bronze cory would anouther cory do I'm going to call up to the store before I go since it's an hour away. I'm sure they'd have at least one type of cory in stock and if I'm lucky I can get the white clouds as well. It's pretty hit or miss on what species I can get when I can actually make it up there, which isn't as easy as I'd like.

You can easily add 2 more cories and a few more whiteclouds to your current stock. Try to get bronze cories, I hear that they prefer their own types best. But, if you can't find them, the one will be happy to have a few other cories around. A 29 has plenty of area to cover, 3 cories would do nicely as a scavenger squad.

Well I ended up getting 2 bronze corys and 3 white clouds yesterday. So I'm up to 5 neons 5 white clouds 3 bronze corys and one male betta. I released the corys first and the went strait for the cory I've had for afew weeks nowl. Poor guy is twice the size of the new ones and didn't seem to know what to do with them LOL. The three white clouds just hit the first neon they saw and started schooling with him untill they saw the other two white clouds. Tonight everyone was off in their own space when I turned the light on so I think they are comfortable now. Mainly the white clouds seem more secure now that they have more of their kind in the tank (I think the two I had were both male still not sure how to sex them). I think we're doing ok but we'll see what the next week brings. I'm going back to daily water tests just to be safe but tonights readings were 0/0/25. So I hope I'm in the clear but I'm sure I'll need a water change well before monday (My planned weekly water change day). I'm happy, the fish seem happy and my cat is really loving the new additions ;) so I think we're all doing fine. Now if I just had room for a larger tank  .
