Hello Everyone,
Long time troll first time poster here. Everyone here has really helped me out setting up my fish tanks and I would like to say thanks. Ok here is my problem. I live in Springfield Il where we get all drinking water from the Springfield lake. Over the years the lake has had many problems to where we couldnt even swim or fish from it. In order to fix said problems they use ALOT of Ammonia. Out of the tap it test at 4ppm and every first Tuesday of the month it goes much higher than that. As is gets warmer the Ammonia level will go up. Also the PH out of tap is 8.8+ all the time. I have a one 55 with three Discus and plants in it. I do 20% water changes every 4 or 5 days. My question is what would be the best action to take in order to get those levels down when adding new water. Right now I'm using AmQuel plus and PH 5.0 Seachem Discus buffer. My water test ok PH is 7.2 a little high Ive been told. Ammonia and Nitrite both at 0 for the time being. They have both gone up from time to time but I'm thinking it is from when shock the lake. Also the General Hardness is very high out of tap but for the life of me I cant think of it. I'm sure I'm forgetting some info that will be usefull to you guys so just ask away. Anyway thanks for all the great help so far.
