Maybe some retailers or wholesalers can chime in...........

There are some cichlids that have been in the hobby forever, such as Jack Dempseys, Firemouths...etc. I'm curious if there are any "wild-caught" specimens in the trade for such fish. I've been in the hobby approx. 7 years and I dont ever recall seeing a tank labeled "wild caught Jack Dempseys" or "wild-caught Meekis" or such. (Although I know there are w-c Oscars). If anyone has one, I'd love to see a pic or get some feedback.....Regards, Gregg

wild cought means it retains its pure genes from the original gene pool and it retains the colors of the wild, not selectively bred colors.

they are generally a better addition to the hobby cause it strengthens the gene pool a little better, seeing as continuous selective breeding weakens the gene pool. its also a cool thing to have the natural colors and not the flaired out blue dempsies or the spangled blue rams. some wild fish are also more colorful than the new variations of fish.

one fish isnt going to make a big impact on the gene pool of that certain type of fish in the hobby tho. it would only change if the farms used wild caught specimens to breed their fish.

but over all, wild are "better".
