AS you know now ive put sand in my tank but ive noticed over night that loads of fish waste has built up on the sand surface and looks horrible how can i make this unsighly mess look a bit better without getting the gravel vac out everyday? Will it improve when the bacteria levels rise again?

that is one of the common problems with sand as a substrate. But as your sand "ages" it will become less visable, and, yes the bacteria will help take care of this. But it will never completely go away. Another thing that you can do to help is have some ground covering plants, such as mini-swords and java moss to hide the fish waste. Adding some rocks and things will also allow the waste to settle where it is less visable. hope this helps.
