I need a white fish or white/silver fish for cycling a tank. 30G, planted, will eventually have angels and neons. I don't want it to be larger than 2 or 3 inches when fully grown.
May I ask why you aren't going to fishless cycle it? Very easy, no fish get hurt, and you don't have to buy fish you don't want.
Not really going to suggest any fish for you to cycle with since I personally don't see a reason to do it, however, just thought I'd let you know you could do it without fish in case you didn't already know
BTW- Angelfish eat neons. That's one of their diet staples in the wild. Even angelfish that are raised with neons from birth often turn and will eat their neon tankmates. Not a good idea.
Besides if you cycle the tank with 1 fish it will only end up having a sufficient bioload for 1 fish. As soon as you add a few angels andneons it will end up cycling all over again.
The fishless cycle will allow you to do a complete stocking once ready in one go.
If biospira is available it will do the same thing over night.
Or if you can find filter media from an established tank then you are as well almost done the cycle and can get away with adding fish and doing a few water changes.
Excpet for people that are willing to kill their fish to cycle a tank, the fishy cycle is actually a slower way to go.
