Looking to Bread Frontosas. This is going to be the first fish I'm going to try to breed ( guppies/mollies/swordtail/Zebra danios you can't stop them) any help would be great.

I'm looking to get some is 10 too many or would 4 to 6 be easyer to manage?

Is a 55 gal to small for a mated pair?

Frontosa get to be around 10" fully grown. They do not pair up. They are harem spawning mouth brooders, so you will need 1 male and 3 or 4 females. There is one other thing against you, and that is Frontosa do not reach sexual maturity until they are about 4 years old.

Good Luck.

thanks for the info I knew I had to wait for a while but 4 years!! Its ok I like having fish and I've had cichlids for 4+ years before.

I didn't know about not pairing up so thanks i'll get 10 and plan to get another very large tank before they reach full size

I have had a colony of Frontosas for about eleven years now, breeding successfully for the last seven or so. I started with four juveniles which turned out to be one male and three females.

A 55g tank is far too small for these fish, even on an intermediate basis. Mine began breeding in a 125g tank, but none of the fry survived until I move the whole colony into a 240g tank and increased the number of rocks/hiding places dramatically.
