Breading oscars

What I do is brush them with scrambled eggs(Uncooked) then roll them in corn meal. If you're like me and don't like a really big fluffy breading, but a thin crispy breading, this works great.

haha sorry, I had to take advantage:) But no, I've never owned any oscars. I thought about an oscar when I got my 55 but decided to go the community route.

Hard part is getting a pair and giving them enough room. They like to dig, make great parents and behave just like other CA and SA cichlids. There is some jaw locking and spouse abuse until they settle and get down to business.

I've not actually done it but know a few who have, to find a pair, you need a tank large enough to support 6-8 oscars at juvenile size. you also need a second large tank, or somewhere to sell them to quickly. Put in 6-8 juveniles, monitor untill two pair off ( may take a while depending on hen they reach maturity). as soon as two pair off get the rest out of the tank as soon as possible. if the pair mates, the others may be killed. It may take a couple of tries, as sometimes two females will pair up. Sexing Oscars is nearly impossible without dissection, so it's kind of a hit and miss game until you get your pair.

Thats very cool
How long have you had your oscars together? were they full grown or did you raise them up from babies?
Did you just luck and put 2 together or did you know that they were male and female?
maybe thats more of the question I should of asked.

how to tell sexes apart(I know its hard) or just get a group and let them pair off

I just put 2 in and luckily they were male and female. When I got them they were about 2 or 3 inches and now they are around 6 inches. I don't think an oscar is sexually mature till it is around 5 inches and that is around when they started having babies. I have a batch now that I have to take to the lfs I have about 5 2-3 inch oscars left from the last time. I gave the rest to some of my friends and family that wanted fish and now I have 5 left that I have to get rid of. I have had them for about 2 years and and they have been sexually mature for about one year and they had babies twice this year.

You have to make sure to have a big tank. Were talking 125 minimum. And not a long one either a more tall and thick.

Also feeding and water conditions are essential. The best way it to raise about 6-8 until they pair off then move the ones that didn't pair out of the tank.
