my GT's left fin is pretty torn up, but the right one is fine. Her tankmates are 3.5 and 2.5 inch jewels, but she is closer to 5 inches, way bigger than them. There is also a 6" common pleco. Could the damage be from one of the jewels? Should I get some of that medicine stuff?

My oscar just got his tail fin ripped up pretty good. I'm now treating him with melafix. From being on this forum for a llittle bit this is what was recommended. And I had no trouble finding it at the LFS. I have him in a tank by himself till he gets better. Your jewels could have done it.

melafix is all natural and if anything it would benefit your other fish if they have any damage on their fins. I have my oscar in a tank by it self b/c it would still get picked on b/c survival of the fittest, its not the largest fish, as in your case your GT may not get picked on. I want it to get better before I throw it back in to the other tank. also you'll use less b/c of a less of amount of water your adding it to. 1 tsp per gal.

yes melafix is a great medication. i one had a blue acara get torn up and also mast had to tailfin, but it grew back, even better than b4 in a few weeks on the recommended melafix treatment.

yeah, She's been through 4 days of treatment so far and is looking better already. I hope stress doesn't have much to do with it because she's decided to lay another batch of eggs and defend them furiously (She bit my finger when I was moving a rock) even though she is the only one in the tank. The two jewels are gone.
