I have a few 55 gal plastic drums around the yard that collect water for the flowers and so forth. They are loaded with misquito larva. My question is do you think that that larva would be a good treat for my fish? do you think the water is safe, its just rain water?
 
Yes, the mosquito larvae are safe for your fish--most will eat them with relish. You might want to get in the habit of harvesting, and then dumping the water out, every 5-6 days. This will prevent the larvae from developing into adult mosquitos--an important factor in limiting the spread of West Nile Virus.
 
Just make sure the fish eat the larvae before they hatch!

harvest every one you can catch, freeze the ones you don't use immediately. don't let those things grow into adult mosquito's. Kyle
 
ok catch as many as possible. Feed some to my fish, they would probably eat them all, but only a little at a time, don't want to spoil them. Then just put the rest in a container and freeze? after that do they get a frozen treat or do I need to thaw them a little?
 
ok will do yum yum. there were not enough to freeze. but my fish did get a good snack. I'm going to try and harvest them when I get home daily, then there might be enough to freeze then. Thanks for all of the help.

do some searches and there is more information along with photos about raising mosquito larvae. You will find some photos of when they are in the egg stage in forms of "rafts" that I believe are the best way to harvest and then raise indoors till they're in the stage you want and then feed and freeze them. this will explain a little better when they're ready to change into mosquitos and such because I'm no expert for sure. kyle
