i dont know the names of the two types of lights iam thinking of one type of light has a sort of yellowish tint to it and the other a bright sort of white tint the names of these lights would be greatly appreicated thanks alot !
 
Well, from what I'm getting, the yellowish tint one would possibly be incandescent and the other could possibly be the fluorescent. Not sure, but that's what it sounds like your talking about.

Lots of different lights come in those color spectrums.

theres metal halide, mercurcy vapor, fluorescent, incandescent, high pressure sodium, and a bunch of others.
 
I think the reason for your question might help answer it. are you looking at putting lights on your tank or is this for a research of some type? as you can see from the earlier replies, there are many types and colors of lighting. normally a white or bluish purple tint is what you will find on an aquarium, I've never seen a yellow color unless it's just really old and stained and not sure what lighting that would supply to a tank. list your intentions as well as tank size, inhabitants, plants, etc. Kyle
 
thanks alot the lighting i was thinking of was fluorescent i have another question a little off topic but how much would a 30 gallon tank, stand, and the hood fixture range from i tryed to go to my lfs after i got out of work but they were all closed so id like some sort of idea so if you can help me out thanks alot !
 
Oooo, I wouldn't go to a LFS in order to get that kinda stuff. I would go to Petsmart, Walmart, somekinda mart :D
It will be much more expensive at your LFS. Or maybe try Aquabid, they have aquariums for bid on there.
