The tank I have my little group of clown loaches in don't mess with the sand at the bottom of the tank much. They spend most time catching the food as it falls or skimming the rocks and wood. I can't remember ever seeing them rooting in the sand. Unless they do it when the lights are off. The bottom is clean however. But I can't give the loaches credit for it since I've never seen them paying much attention to it.

I can't help ya with any info on cories, as I've not owned one in a very long time. I was also using gravel then. I'd suggest making a new post. And ask if they'd be suited for sand. I'm sure you'd have better luck that way.

Sorry about your loach. My loaches like rooting in the sand but don't realy keep it clean. Did you have a single loach ? They do better in groups. (If you want to try again)
