The Animal Welfare Act of 1970 (?) charges the USDA and Fed.gov to manage the welfare of mammals only.

Not insects, reptiles, birds, fish, ect.

Do you agree with this?

I'd eh, hate to have insects under that protection... What about my target practice around the house?!?!

Kidding... :D

Reptiles and birds need to be covered. How on earth they'd enforce any protection on fish is beyond me!

this is honestly one of the most difficult aspects to consider and argue for or against, as there are a whole lot of aspects to view this from.

First off, is how they should be regulated. If your going to regulate businesses and the consumers, if your going to have businesses regulate the consumers, etc.

If businesses are included at all, you need to decide wether you want to treat this as an externality or as a law stemming from the animals rights. Then you need to consider the potential harm or benefit given to businesses and animals. You wouldnt want to create a situation where the businesses involved are unfairly burdened with taxes or regulations if the care the animals are recieving isnt improving much.

Then another entire issue is what animals/plants/wildlife the goverment should be regulating. Should it be only animals in the wild, or should they be telling you how to keep your own animals? Essentially that boils down to wether humans have the right to mistreat other animals or not. And thats a question not simply answered by a yes or no.

There are a bunch more different issues here that I havent even started to get at. So I would hesitate to give such a simple answer as I think they should regulate this or that.

there are other "acts" for the other groups you mentioned, they aren't all included under the one umbrella...
