In the 55 I have:
16 Cardinal Tetras
9 Rummynosed Tetras
6 Panda Corys
1 Bristlenosed Pleco
1 Male Dwarf Gourami (Flame)

I have been looking for two female dwarf gouramis and cannot find any around here. I'm not going to pay shipping costs to purchase 2 fish on-line and have them shipped.

I am considering options and decided to seek the advice of my learned associates.
 
Don't get a betta.

Don't get another male dwarf gourami.

That combination is a definite no-no.

You will not find a female gourami in a pet store, unless they specialize in rare and oddity fish.

Female dwarf gouramis are not usually sold commercially because they are considered "ugly." They're a plain silver color and lack the coloration of the males.

Your only option is to either get one online, or not get one at all:( That is, of course, unless you happen to have a dwarf gourami breeder near you...
 
You can find female Dwarves in your LFS every so often, despite what others say. Keep bugging the owners about getting them in and eventually they will. Also check over the ones they do have very well, occassionally there will be a female in with all the males. Your tank isn't over stocked, but If you do get a couple females I would stop there. With it being a 55 you could also get another Male dwarf and they should be able to have enough room for territories that they won't bother each other too much. My suggestion is to just keep looking.
 
You know this is from this past july guys, right? Whatever he's chosen to do is probably already done;)
