Hi i have a question about angelfish and zebra danios ... would they get along or would the zebras harrass the angelfish ? the tank size is 30 gals. if that would matter thanks Davey

The zebra danios should be fine with an angelfish. They work well in a community aquarium and are peacefull, so you shouldn't have any trouble.

Actually, I personally wouldn't be surprised at all if the angelfish occasionally catches and eats the danios. Angels love to eat small fish - anything that will fit in their mouths.

So it's a bad idea ? i have a freind with a bunch of neons and an angel fish and the angel fish doesnt seem to bother with the neons .. i didint relize angel fish are aggressive like that ? so .. what do ya think ? bad idea - good idea
Thanks Davey

if the angel is still small, its possible for it to 'learn' the danios arent food. I have 2 angels and zebra danios in my tank with no problems, but the angels are growing ;)
you never know... no guarantees, lol

Along the lines of what fishlvr said, it can be possible for angelfish to be around smaller fish without a problem, but this is accomplished most often by raising very small angelfish with near-adult small fish (like neons). The hope is that the angelfish do not see them as food, but rather as companions. Even still, this does not always work. When the angelfish is mature, some will snap and start eating them. You see, in the wild, angelfish's diet consists greatly of neon tetras. That is what they eat. You can see why they don't necessarily make good combinations in tanks!
I would avoid mixing the two kinds of fish, but that's just me and I hate to loose a fish, especially if I could have prevented it. You can surely try, if you don't mind losing a danio or two. You could also try to get full grown danios and a very very small angelfish.

My rule of thumb is that while some fish are simply aggressive, all fishes will eat whatever fits in their mouth. Angelfishes can grow to be 7 inches long and by the time they grow that large, most of the smaller fishes will fit in their mouths. Some people have had success growing angelfishes with tetras but I think its just a matter of time before a large angelfish decides that his tank buddies are better as food than friends.

Ditto: there's no honor among thieves (for fish anyway ;D) and even if things have been going well for a while, if a fish can fit another fish in its mouth the smaller one is defintely in danger, especially with a predator like an angel.
